Late Start Survey
School districts are required to provide professional development to keep their teachers up-to-date on instructional practices. Providing learning opportunities throughout the year allows teachers to learn, evaluate, and improve lessons taught in their classrooms. Beginning in the 2010-11 school year, Dearborn provided professional development to teachers in the mornings by having students start school one hour later than normal. Prior to last year, teacher professional development time was generally provided by students having half days of schools.
Many educators believe that the late starts help them to work collaboratively in order to improve their instruction and thereby improve student achievement. However, some parents find the late starts difficult for their families, particularly due to child care issues.
The district is interested in learning your opinion on late start times. Please complete this short survey. The opportunity for additional comments is provided at the end of the survey.
