Stronger Together #OneHive

November 29, 2021

Greetings Woodworth Families,

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. Here we are, already at the end of November and it has been a very exciting and busy school year for our staff and students. As we navigate the new procedures and practices in our schools that keep us safe we are also reacquainting ourselves with the social aspects of being together and interacting with each other.  Ensuring that students do not take part in actions or use words that would harm the emotional well being of another student is vitally important to both the academic and overall success of our school.

Since the 1990’s the Dearborn Public Schools have promoted a set of Core Values that provide a framework of how we should treat each other and behaviors that create a positive school environment.  Our Core Values also remind us how important it is to appreciate and celebrate the vast diversity that exists in our district and right here at Woodworth. That diversity comes in many different forms: cultural, ethnic, social economics, and religious just to name a few.  Although it is not the role of a school to promote or teach religion we do expect students to treat each other with respect and not bully or intimidate other students because of their religious beliefs.

Parents are their child’s first teacher and the primary place children learn how to treat, and get along with, each other. I thank you for the great job you have been doing and would please ask all of our Woodworth parents to take just a moment and remind your child of the importance of treating others with kindness, respecting our differences, and celebrating our commonalities.

This week, our students will participate in an OK2SAY assembly.  This assembly will address issues that our students experience and issues that are impacting our students at Woodworth, in Dearborn and throughout the country.  This assembly will also help to remind our students how to stand up for themselves and others, as well as, be mindful of the power of their words.  The entire team at Woodworth is committed to supporting and reinforcing the positive messages that I know you are teaching your children at home. Our role as educators is to provide a safe, nurturing, and caring environment where your children can learn and grow.  In the event that a student is made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or bullied at our school we want to know so that we can address the concern and correct the problem.

As we look ahead to the remainder of the school year I am energized and excited to watch our students grow, learn, and thrive. Woodworth is a great school, supported by a great community, and I look forward to all that lies ahead.

Kindest Regards,

Nicole Rabac-Esseily
